The quality of service provided by some taxi drivers are getting worse nowadays. Taxi is an important means of transport for tourists and non-locals. If a taxi driver provides bad service, this will definitely leave them a bad impression of the place and people as a whole.
One of the important aspects passengers look for in taxi drivers is cleanliness. A good taxi driver will take good care of the cleanliness of his vehicle. His car should at least be free of stench so that passengers will not have to hold their breath for the whole ride. Next, honesty is the best policy. Taxi drivers should charge passengers accordingly. Most taxis do not have meters to indicate the costs of the ride. However, they should charge customers with reasonable price. Reliability is also an important trait. Taxi drivers should be reliable in the information they give and actions they make. There are incidents where drivers cheated unknowledgeable customers by driving them to the wrong place. Some were even robbed by taxi drivers.
Besides, taxi drivers should have patience. They should drive properly and obey the road rules. This is to ensure the safety of the passengers. However, some drivers drive aggressively. This gives passengers quite a shock and threatened their safety. Other bad driving includes cutting lanes, dashing off while traffic lights, exceeding speed limits. These actions are due to lack of patience. Taxi drivers should be considerate as well. They should not smoke in the car, keep the windows open and must keep the air conditioner in good condition.
Lastly, if a taxi driver are able to meet the above requirements, he is a quality driver. Passengers will have confidence in his driving skills and character. He has a well-built reputation and will surely has a good career in his life.

I believe that this drop in the quality of our taxi drivers is mainly due to the lack of enforcement of strict laws against these unscrupulous taxi drivers. They have experienced too much freedom in their business and have become greedy individuals. They have not realized that they are causing great difficulty or even the locals who have to depend on these taxis to get back home due to the lack of public transport infrastructure in even the main cities of Malaysia. Therefore, I believe to actually solve this problem, I propose that the government should start by improving the public transport infrastructure in the main cities of Malaysia such as Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur and Georgetown. Only then, this problem of unscrupulous taxi drivers will be solved.
Our taxi services have been voted to be the worst in the world and this leave a very bad impression to the tourists, regardless from the local or the foreigners. However, not every taxi drivers are bad. Therefore, I suggest that everyone must play a role to make sure the good qualities come from the taxi drivers. We, as a customer must report any exploitation by the taxi drivers to remove this black sheep.
